Launch of Online Payment Platform for Transient Occupancy Tax Remittance

House ImageThe City has officially launched its online payment platform for remittance of the Transient Occupancy Tax associated with short-term rentals (STRs). This tax, commonly referred to as TOT, applies to occupants staying in accommodations for 30 consecutive days or fewer. In Citrus Heights, the primary accommodations subject to TOT are STRs and motel/hotels. Accommodations exceeding a 30-day stay are exempt from this tax.

The implementation of this online platform represents the first step towards achieving greater compliance among STR operators. Currently, less than 30% of the identified short-term rentals are in compliance with the City's licensing requirements.  In the coming weeks, City staff will work proactively with non-compliant operators to address both licensing requirements and TOT remittance.
