[ARCHIVED] City Council Approves New Rental Housing Inspection Program

The Rental Housing Inspection Program (RHIP) was approved by the City Council on October 25, 2018, and took effect January 1. The program seeks to enhance the safety of rental properties and the quality of life for tenants and their neighbors.

How does the program work?

Owners of rental property are required to submit a Rental Housing  Program Registration form for each rental property owned. Once the property is registered, if it has not yet been inspected by the program, inspection appointment letters will be sent to the property owner and tenant(s) providing advance notice of the appointment date and time.

How does this program benefit Citrus Heights residents?

The RHIP promotes compliance with health and safety standards to reduce substandard rental housing conditions, and enhances the quality of life for residents living in or near rental housing properties. Code Enforcement Officers inspect rental properties for interior and exterior violations and issue corrective notices as needed.

The RHIP will be part of the existing Problem Oriented Policing (POP) and Code Enforcement team assigned to the Special Operations Unit. Although the RHIP began on January 1, inspections will not begin until July 1, 2019.
