April 21, 2025: Shortly after 10:30 am, Citrus Heights Police Department (CHPD) officers responded to the report of a male who was armed with a knife and threatening people in the 7800 block of Lichen Dr.
Officers responded to the area and located the subject, identified as 28-year-old John Angel Marmol Elias, armed with a knife. Upon contact, the officers verbally engaged Elias and attempted to de-escalate the incident; however, Elias began running toward an officer with the knife still in his hand. One Citrus Heights Police Officer fired his duty weapon, striking Elias. Once Elias was disarmed, Officers rendered medical aid. Elias was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Citrus Heights Investigation team, along with investigators from the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, are investigating this officer-involved shooting. Numerous pieces of evidence have been collected and are currently being processed, including the knife carried by Elias. The investigation also revealed Elias attempted to carjack a victim at knifepoint in the parking lot just prior to officers arriving on scene. Elias was subsequently arrested for 664/215 PC, Attempted Carjacking. This continues to be an active investigation, and additional charges are likely to be filed.
Per CHPD policy, the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave and their identity will not be released at this time while the incident is under investigation. No officers were injured as a result of this incident.
