Citrus Heights, CA – On August 8, 2016, shortly after 10:00 PM, Citrus Heights Police dispatchers received information regarding an armed subject acting strange near the 7000 block of Grenola Way. Officers responded to the scene and confirmed the subject was armed with a handgun.
At approximately 10:22 PM, the subject brandished the weapon at officers and an officer involved shooting occurred with at least one officer firing his weapon at the suspect. Fire personnel also responded and pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene. No police officers were injured.
At the scene of the shooting, there were suspicious canisters nearby and the Sacramento County Bomb Squad was requested to determine if the canisters were safe. The Bomb Squad rendered the canisters and the house safe. We appreciate the assistance of our neighboring agencies including CHP, Roseville PD, and Sacramento County Sheriff helping with this incident.
Currently, CHPD is in the beginning stages of this Officer Involved Shooting Investigation. The areas around the location will remain closed during the investigation. The officers involved with the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave which is standard policy during these incidents.
There are no outstanding suspects or threats to the public resulting from this incident.
