April 16, 2015- At approximately 6:40AM, the Citrus Heights Police Department responded to the 6300 block of Trenton Way for a domestic incident involving a male and female subject.
Upon arrival, officers were able to safely remove the female from the location but the male refused to exit the residence. Reports indicated that the male subject was possibly armed with a firearm. Officers surrounded the location and attempted to make contact with the male subject, but were unsuccessful.
Based on the nature of the crime and the report of a firearm, the Citrus Heights Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were both activated.
Officers are currently attempting to negotiate with subject so the incident can be resolved in a safe and peaceful manner.
**UPDATE**
At approximately 10:00 pm this evening, the Citrus Heights Police Department’s SWAT team made entry into the house and arrested 58 year old suspect, David Wilt, who was found hiding in a bathroom. Wilt barricaded himself in the home for approximately 15 hours and refused to surrender despite continuous efforts by our Crisis Negotiation Team. During that time, numerous attempts were made to conclude the standoff peacefully including the deployment of gas and a specialized robot which is owned and operated by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
Wilt was safely taken into custody and sustained only minor injuries during the incident. He will be treated at the hospital for his injuries and then booked into the Sacramento County main jail for felony domestic battery, a firearms charge and resisting arrest.
The Citrus Heights Police Department is committed to its zero tolerance approach towards domestic violence. Thanks to the skill of our officers, tactical teams, and partners, the suspect was apprehended without injury to the community or any of our officers.
