Developed by a coalition of property owners, the Sunrise MarketPlace (SMP) Property and Business Improvement District (PBID) is a benefit assessment district whose purpose is to provide improvements and activities which constitute and create a special benefit to assessed parcels. Sunrise MarketPlace was formed in 1999 and includes approximately ten blocks along Sunrise Boulevard and Greenback Lane. The PBID was renewed for a fourth term in July 2014.
Over the last fifteen years, the PBID has provided an unprecedented level of marketing, branding, economic development and advocacy services. The BID has focused on branding, signage and streetscape improvements in order to define and create a distinct identity for the Sunrise/Greenback corridor. SMP has also implemented aggressive advertising and event programs to drive traffic, increase sales and generate awareness for its businesses.
Sunrise MarketPlace has hosted many events over the years, including the Sacramento Capitals tennis tournaments and the Sunrise at Night Concert Series. These events have drawn thousands of visitors to the area and created millions of media impressions. SMP is now firmly rooted in the fabric of the community and positively connected to customers.
The PBID works closely with the City of Citrus Heights and the Police Department to ensure a safe, attractive and user-friendly environment. Additionally, SMP works toward creating a business friendly environment advocating for ordinances and zoning that support its businesses as well as economic development policies that foster growth and renovation. In 2008, the PBID partnered with the City on a Visioning Project.
SMP works with community partners including the Citrus Heights Chamber, City of Citrus Heights, CHPD, Citrus Heights Rotary, and others to leverage services and create benefit and value for its business and property owners.
