Annually, the City of Citrus Heights and Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce partner to conduct a Business Walk in a specific commercial area of our City. The annual Business Walk is an important business retention tool and provides valuable feedback to how the City and Chamber can better serve the business community. On September 27, 2017, over 30 volunteers from the City and Chamber visited approximately 160 businesses along Sunrise Boulevard from Woodmore Oaks to Antelope Road for the Business Walk. Businesses were asked what they liked about doing business in Citrus Heights; what their challenges were and what the City and Chamber could do to help. Businesses reported they liked the high traffic on the Sunrise Boulevard corridor, recent streetscape improvements, Citrus Heights’ community atmosphere, and the Police Department, to name a few.
As part of the Business Walk the City and Chamber follow-up individually with businesses to address their concerns. This year, the City and Chamber communicated directly with approximately 70 businesses to address their individual concerns. However this year, the City and Chamber also sent a joint letter to all businesses in the Business Walk area to address overall concerns related to traffic congestion, understanding the sign ordinance, homelessness and lack of communication and interaction with the Chamber of Commerce. The full letter can be viewed here. In addition, since this letter was mailed the City was recently notified that we have received a grant to study traffic and multi-modal options for Old Auburn Road.
The Business Walk program visits a different commercial area of the City each year. If you are interested in the Business Walk visiting your area in fall 2018, please contact Devon Rodriguez, Economic Development Manager, at (916) 727-4745 or drodriguez@citrusheights.net.
