Records Unit

Our Records Unit is staffed by a team of highly experienced Records Assistants and supervised by our Police Services Supervisor. Our goal is to provide impactful service to our community.  In addition to serving the public by phone and in person, the Records Unit processes police reports, traffic citations, criminal reports, subpoenas, and all documents for the courts.

All Police Department Records are maintained and released by the Records Unit.

Fingerprinting

Live Scan fingerprinting is only available to citizens applying for a Citrus Heights Business License and is completed by appointment only at the Citrus Heights Police Department, 6315 Fountain Square Drive, Citrus Heights, CA. 95621. Contact the Records and Data Compliance Unit for an appointment at 916-727-5500, option 2.

Police Reports

Report Requests

You may request reports by completing this online form. Your request will need to include a picture of yourself holding your government-issued ID.

Collision and crime reports are available to victims at no cost. Suspects are not eligible to obtain a copy of the report from our department. If you are listed as a suspect, contact your legal counsel. Collision reports can be released to parties listed as being involved in the accident: registered owners of the vehicles, insurance companies, and legal counsel.

Copies of reports are processed in the order received. Requested Reports may be mailed, emailed, or picked up at 6315 Fountain Square Drive during normal business hours. For your convenience, please call (916) 727-5500 prior to coming in to confirm that the report is available for release.

Fees

  • $11 per Report up to 40 pages in length
  • An additional $0.25 per page after 40 pages
  • $30 per hour for Research and Data Compilation if required to produce your report
  • $43 for every 15 minutes of Audio
  • $61 for every 15 minutes of Video
  • $11 for photographs on CD; $16 for photographs on USB flash drive
  • Note: Fees are based on the City of Citrus Heights Master Fee Schedule. Media used for records releases are at the discretion of the custodian of records (i.e., CD/DVD, USB flash drive, etc.). Additional fees may apply.

Vehicle Release

Requirements

Citizens who have had their vehicles stored or impounded by the Citrus Heights Police Department must appear in person to have that vehicle released. Registered owners and their designee (if applicable) must show a valid Driver’s License and must have current registration or a DMV-issued moving permit when applicable.

Fee

Pursuant to Resolution 97-1217, prior to the release of your vehicle, you must pay an administrative fee of $206 to the city. This fee must be paid with a cashier’s check, cash, Visa or Master Card, or money orders. No personal checks are accepted.

Once you have paid the administrative fee, you will be provided with a release form, which must be presented to the towing company prior to the release of your vehicle. The administrative fee must be paid in person, in our lobby.

The lobby is open during our normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, except holidays. Please see our holiday schedule below for holiday hours.  

Tow Hearing

In accordance with the provisions of CVC §22852, if you are notified that your vehicle has been stored, you have the right to request a hearing to determine the validity of this storage. Your request for a hearing must be received within 10 days from the date of the notice of storage. You may request a hearing in person at our Police Department lobby.

The fee for a Vehicle Tow Hearing is $95.

Hearing Officer

A hearing officer is available Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, excluding holidays. Hearings are held in person.

If you request a hearing, it will be conducted within 48 hours of your request, excluding weekends and holidays. If the registered legal owner fails to request or respond to a hearing, this shall satisfy the post-storage validity hearing requirements of California Vehicle Code §22852.
