Animal Control

The city contracts with Sacramento County for animal care and regulation services. During weekdays, the city has a dedicated animal control officer available. At night and on weekends, the city operates an emergency dispatch service only.

Services provided through the county include:

Animal Shelter - Animals who are lost or at-large are picked up and taken to the Sacramento County Animal Shelter located at 3839 Bradshaw Road.

Licensing - You may purchase a dog or cat license at City Hall or print out the application and mail it directly to Sacramento County.

Adoptions  - Adopt a pet from the county's animal shelter.

For wild animals, the city uses the Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services program. This is a great resource to get technical advice regarding wildlife management strategies on your property. If wildlife has become a nuisance in your neighborhood, this program can provide valuable information and assistance.

Barking dogs - Few things are as annoying as having to listen to the constant bark, howl, whine or cry of another person's dog. The noise can disrupt sleep, disturb your work and family life, and generally decrease the quality of life you enjoy at your home. Many times, the dog owner is unaware of the problem. In such cases, the best way to resolve the situation is to politely notify the dog's owner of the problem. If barking continues after notification, please call us at (916) 725-7387 (PETS) to report it.
