Citizen Alert & Emergency Notification System

In partnership with Sacramento, Placer and Yolo County agencies, the California Office of Emergency Services funded the initial purchase of a new emergency notification system powered by Everbridge. The city of Boston utilized this same notification system during the Boston Marathon bombing and the entire east coast used it during the Hurricane Sandy disaster. This system is now available to the City of Citrus Heights. Our goal is to simplify communications in high pressure situations by providing us with ready-to-use alerts that can be sent network-wide or to a select few. In the event of an emergency the alert system can be used in minutes to communicate with thousands of businesses and residents within our region. This includes alerts such as severe weather, fires, floods, toxic environmental issues, other local disaster, missing or at-risk persons, and /or crimes in progress where we can provide instructions to the community.

Today's technology has tremendously changed the way people communicate; both through receiving or sending information. Additionally due to the change in mobile phone technology, fewer people are using the traditional landline/hardwired (plugged into the wall) phones in their homes. The Everbridge system allows us to quickly notify residents, businesses and our employees when emergencies or critical information needs to be delivered via numerous technological devices.

Emergency Notification Alerts

Messages, which may include life-saving emergency information and public service announcements, can be sent to individuals using a variety of contact mechanisms, including cell phone, landline, email, text messaging, fax, pager and more. Citizens listed in the 9-1-1 phone database will be automatically subscribed to alerts by the traditional landline/hardwired phone.

An additional goal for our agency in the future is to notify the public via public service announcements, such as through our website, Twitter account, or other social media. This will give residents the option to self-register, provide additional contact information or opt out completely when no longer interested.

Citizen Alerts

This citizen alert system serves the City of Citrus Heights and the Counties of Placer, Sacramento and Yolo counties. It is designed to send out non-emergency community alerts to citizens that chose to opt-in and register for the program. To register, a citizen can go to the Citrus Heights Police Department's website at Citrus Heights Police Department, and select the "Citizen Alert" heading. This will bring you to the registration website to create a user name, password and profile. Citizens are able to register several phone numbers such as their work, home, and mobile phone. They can sign up for multiple geographical areas such as their children's school, their home, and their work address areas to be notified of any emergency or non-emergency alert.

Hearing Impaired

Hearing impaired individuals are also able to register their TTY/TTD lines. Citrus Heights senior citizens that do not have access to a computer or need assistance registering for this program can contact the Citrus Heights Police Department at 916-727-5500 and the staff there will assist them with registering for the program.
